Hello,

We are Allan Lehman and Lorraine Lambright, brother and sister.

Our parents were born and raised in the Amish faith in the Shipshewana & Topeka, Indiana area, known as Amish Country. We, our sister Rose and two brothers, Leonard and Larion, grew up on the same 40-acre family farm that Dad and his 11 siblings were raised on. Raising pigs, chickens, beef cattle, dairy cattle and crops, kept us very busy year round. Mom was born into a family of 6 siblings and also lived within the same community.

Mom and Dad raised us in the Conservative Mennonite faith, but with all of the values, traditions, work ethic, and much of the lifestyle of the Amish. Much of our extended family, including aunts, uncles, cousins and grandparents, are still Amish. We still speak the Amish language, and our lives still reflect much of what we were taught, including the way we cook. As children, we attended the local public schools and graduated from Westview Jr.-Sr. High School. If you have heard of The Essenhaus or The Blue Gate restaurants, those were in our stomping grounds.

Some of my (Allan) fondest memories, ones I will never forget, are the days when my brother and I would spend a week at uncle Ervin's helping shock corn, bale hay, or doing other farm chores. I still love the outdoors and get out there every chance I get. I am also, especially, into hiking and outdoor photography. My girlfriend and I love going out west to do some backpacking and to see the beautiful scenery. New Mexico and Arizona are our favorite states to go to, and we plan on retiring there someday. You can check out my hiking site at www.purecountryhiking.com

Another of my passions is cooking, and most of the recipes I use are the recipes I grew up with. I do have a couple of my own, and you will get those if you sign up for the newsletter. Mashed potatoes with onions is one of them. My favorite recipe is, without a doubt, the Amish Church Peanut Butter. It is unlike any other Amish Peanut Butter recipe you will see online. Many of the recipes you will see here have been favorites and passed on for generations. With modern conveniences, some methods have changed, but tastes and basic ingredients remain the same.

Thank you for your interest in this good food. Enjoy!
